Diabetes is a modern epidemic. More than five percent
of North Americans have diabetes—high blood sugar levels—and this
number is expected to double by 2010. Some reports suggest that the
percentage of North Americans with diabetes may be 50 percent higher.
It is a leading cause of blindness and kidney failure in North America.
You don’t have to be part of the diabetes epidemic.
AIM’s Glucose Management Program is designed to provide nutritional
and lifestyle factors for the support of healthy blood sugar management.
It is the ideal program for those seeking to maintain their good health
in the future and to support their body’s natural blood sugar balance.
It can be used by anyone who has or who is at risk for Type II diabetes.*
AIM’s Glucose Management Program can be used as the
primary approach to dealing with blood sugar problems or as a support
system to be combined with programs recommended by a health practitioner.
It may also be used with other programs, such as other AIM Health
Solutions, that target a specific health concern.
Glucose Management Program
Blood sugar (glucose) problems are associated with
a “Western diet”—one that is rich in refined sugars, fats, and animalproducts,
and low in dietary fiber. The chronic and excessive intake of refined
carbohydrates can contribute to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and
the risk of Type II diabetes (noninsulin-dependent diabetes). Type
II diabetes is characterized by high blood sugar levels and a greatly
increased risk of atherosclerosis, kidney disease, and loss of nerve
function. In the West, Type II diabetes is nearing epidemic proportions,
due to diet, an increased number of older people, and a greater prevalence
of obesity and sedentary lifestyles. Researchers estimate that 80
to 90 percent of people who develop Type II diabetes are overweight*.
Throughout AIM’s Glucose Management Program, continue
to take your usual servings of AIM BarleyLife™ and AIM Herbal Fiberblend™
and modify your lifestyle with the recommendations that follow the
product use instructions. AIM BarleyLife™ provides a strong nutritional
foundation for good health. The nutrients and antioxidants found
in AIM Barleygreen™ help provide a foundation for good health and
protect all body systems from free radical damage. AIM Herbal Fiberblend™
supports digestive system function, especially the liver, and promotes
regular elimination.
Day 1 through 7
Detoxify and improve digestion
It is first necessary to “reset” the body through detoxification
and a primed digestive system. It is important to continue your
regular use of AIM BarleyLife™
and AIM Herbal
Fiberblend™ in this stage and throughout the program.
AIM GlucoChrom™:
Take as directed. —aids in improving sensitivity of cells to insulin
and in supporting normal blood sugar levels.
AIM PrepZymes™:
Take 1 capsule 3 times per day with meals. —assists in digestive function
and provides secondary support for pancreatic health. (Because 46
percent of digested protein is converted to glucose upon demand, inadequate
protein digestion can lead to hypoglycemia.)
Week 2 through 5
Balance and enhance
In the second stage of the program, digestive health is maintained,
and other products are added to further maintain blood sugar balance.
It is also important to fully integrate the lifestyle modifications
outlined on the next page into the program.
AIM GlucoChrom™: Take as directed.
AIM PrepZymes™: Take 1 capsule 2 times per day with
meals.
AIM
Proancynol 2000™: Take as directed. —provides potent antioxidant
support for key body systems, such as the cardiovascular and nervous
systems, as well as blood sugar support functions through nutrients
such as alpha-lipoic acid.
Week 6 through 12
Support and maintain
In the final stage, the balance obtained throughout the program is
maintained. This final stage of the program may be used on an ongoing
basis.
AIM GlucoChrom™: Take as directed.
AIM Proancynol 2000™: Take as directed.
AIM PrepZymes™: Take as directed or as needed.
AIM GinkgoSense™: Take as directed. —supports circulation
(especially in the brain and related structures), with specific nutritional
support added for the eyes and nervous system. Diabetes often leads
to an inhibi-tion of blood circulation, especially in the feet and
extremi-ties. Poor circulation impairs the healing process, and can
lead to ulcers, infection, and other serious foot conditions.
Lifestyle Modifications
The lifestyle modifications should be used throughout
the Glucose Management Program. These recommendations are also beneficial
as general guidelines for good health outside of the program.
Improve Diet
The first seven days of the program are a transitional
phase. Begin building your diet around complex carbohydrates and plant
fibers. This type of diet is rich in vegetables and low in sugars
and fats. The emphasis is on unprocessed cereal grains, legumes, and
root vegetables. Roughly 70 to 75 percent of calories should come
from complex carbohydrates (vegetables, fruits, and grains), 15 to
20 percent from proteins (low-fat meats, poultry, and fish), and only
5 to 10 percent from fats. Total fiber content should be about 100
grams per day. You may take additional doses of AIM Herbal Fiberblend™;
how-ever, fiber must come from both diet and supplemental sources,
not just supplements. Drink at least eight glasses of water per day.
The benefits of this dietary approach include reduced
post-meal hyperglycemia (high blood sugar), delayed hypoglycemia (low
blood sugar), increased tissue sensitivity to insulin, reduced cholesterol,
and reduced weight.
Exercise
Regular exercise is critical in the promotion of
healthy blood sugar management. Use aerobic exercise to elevate your
heart rate at least 50 percent for 30 minutes three times per week.
Increase your exercises steadily so that by Week 12, your exercise
frequency is at least five days per week for no less than 45 minutes.
If your weight is excessive, consult a health practitioner and consider
some form of water-based aerobics. Visit www.theaimcompanies.com/healthsolutions
for more information on exercise and heart rate.
Exercise increases insulin sensitivity, improves
glucose tolerance, decreases cholesterol and triglycerides, increases
HDL cholesterol, assists in weight loss, and provides stress release.
Manage stress
A simple stress management technique (minimum 10 minutes) should be
employed daily. This might include deep-breathing exercises, meditation,
prayer, visualization, or stretching. See AIM’s Stress Relief Program
for detailed information on stress.
Monitor your risk
Take our glucose management evaluation on a regular
basis to determine your risk for blood sugar problems and Type II
diabetes.
*Although proper diet, nutrition, and other lifestyle
measures are absolutely critical in Type I diabetes (insulin-dependent
diabetes), this program is not intended to be used in Type I diabetes.
If you do have diabetes and are using supplemental insulin or other
prescription medications, please consult your health practitioner
before using this program.
This program and the included products
must not be used in place of a physician or qualified health practitioner.
It is designed for use in conjunction with the services provided by
physicians practicing, or receptive to, natural medicine.
